How to use Gaston (Intl)
Gaston on Intl: the 3-chain coin loop and three players' coin runs.
Gaston is one of the classic coin Tsums on the International app. His skill clears a horizontal line, then makes Gastons rain from the top for a short time. Played well, you end up with a board that's almost all Gaston, and you chain it again and again.
The short version:
- The skill needs 20 Tsums. Fandom, Tsum Tsum Central, The Tsumazing Race and ToyBoxHunter's video all say 20
- Skill level decides how many of the falling Tsums are Gastons. At SL6 it's all of them (Fandom and ToyBoxHunter agree)
- The coin trick is the 3rd chain. Make a long Gaston chain, hold your finger until the skill time ends, then tap the skill button before the chain finishes clearing. Three separate guides describe this same loop
- He's an SL6 Tsum. Two of the video guides say he's worth skill tickets, and one says he's only good at SL6
- Coin results vary a lot by player. Three videos show 5,305, 6,505 and 8,343 coins, and each is just that player's run
Watch: a step-by-step run
If the video doesn't load: How To Use Gaston to Earn a Lot of Coins! 6505 Coins (ToyBoxHunter) (about 10 minutes)
We picked this one because it's narrated and slows the key moments down, which the other runs don't. It's from July 2021 on the English International app. What to watch for:
- The stats card at the start. He reads out 20 to activate, 50 to 1,030 score, and 36 copies to max the skill, plus a chart showing what share of falling Tsums are Gastons at each skill level
- The bubble after chains 1 and 2. Popping a Magic Bubble right after you release a chain makes everything drop faster. He shows the same chain side by side with and without the bubble, and the difference is obvious
- Chain 3 is different. He doesn't pop the bubble. He makes the chain as long as he can, lets the skill finish, then hits the skill button. That's the moment the loop restarts
- His own caveat. He says he missed some Gastons in this run and that faster players with ~40-long chains should get more than his 6,505
How the skill works
| Point | Details | Checked by |
|---|---|---|
| Skill text | "Clears a horizontal line of Tsum Tsum and makes it rain Gastons for a short time!" | Fandom, Tsum Tsum Central, ToyBoxHunter's video |
| Tsums to activate | 20 | Fandom, Tsum Tsum Central, The Tsumazing Race, ToyBoxHunter |
| Score | 50 at Lv 1, 1,030 at Lv 50 | Fandom, Tsum Tsum Central, The Tsumazing Race, ToyBoxHunter |
| Score per level | +20 | Fandom states it. It also matches 50 → 1,030 over 49 levels |
| Max skill level | 6 | Fandom, Tsum Tsum Central |
| Copies to max the skill | 36 (1 / 1 / 2 / 4 / 8 / 20 per level) | Fandom; ToyBoxHunter also says 36. The per-level split is Fandom only |
| Gastons cleared during the skill | Don't fill the skill gauge. That's why the trick below waits for the skill to end | Fandom; The Tsumazing Race describes the same thing |
| Bubbles during the skill | Become Score Bubbles | Fandom only |
Share of falling Tsums that are Gastons
| Skill level | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gaston share | 50% | 60% | 70% | 80% | 90% | 100% |
SL6 = 100% is confirmed by Fandom and ToyBoxHunter. The SL1–5 numbers are Fandom only (unconfirmed). ToyBoxHunter shows a chart but only says the share is "less" below SL6.
The 3-chain loop
The Tsumazing Race, Randomtsum and ToyBoxHunter each describe the same loop, in slightly different words:
- Start of the game: chain Gastons as fast as you can to fire the first skill.
- Chains 1 and 2 during the skill: chain fast, then pop a bubble right away to speed up the drop. Randomtsum and ToyBoxHunter both clear the non-Gastons at the bottom first.
- Chain 3: make one long Gaston chain, around 28–30+ (Randomtsum) or 31+ (The Tsumazing Race). Keep your finger down until the background changes, which means skill time is over. Then let go and tap the skill button repeatedly. Don't pop the bubble.
- If the skill fires before the last Gaston in that chain clears, the next skill starts and only Gastons fall again. Repeat until time runs out.
Why it works: Gastons cleared during the skill don't charge the gauge. So the last chain has to finish clearing after the skill ends, and it has to be long enough (20+) to refill the gauge on its own.
| Point | Randomtsum | The Tsumazing Race | ToyBoxHunter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chains per skill | 3 (try 4 if you're very fast) | 3 | 3 (up to 4 at the very start) |
| Length of the last chain | at least 28–30, 35+ ideal | 31+ | at least 20, ~40 for big coins |
| Below SL6 | "only good at SL6" | SL1–4: clear the non-Gastons first, then chain all the Gastons at the end of the skill | You don't need SL6, "but it's definitely going to help" |
Coin results: three players' runs
These are three single games, each from a different video. Each one shows that player's own result, not a number you should expect.
| Video | Skill level | Items | Coins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jemtus (Feb 2020, app INT.1.65.0) | SL5 | "No boosts" (title) | 5,305 |
| ToyBoxHunter (Jul 2021) | Not stated | No Time item (he says you could earn more with one); other items not stated | 6,505 |
| XJO5. (Jul 2020, iPad 6th gen) | SL6 | Not stated ("base coins") | 8,343 |
What we take from this: the spread comes mostly from skill level and chain length. XJO5.'s SL6 run is about 3,000 coins higher than Jemtus's SL5 run, though we can't compare items because XJO5. doesn't list them. XJO5. also says his own best is 8,847. All three show the English International app (Jemtus names the INT version in the title). They are also 5–6 years old, so the app version and items have changed since.
Randomtsum adds that skipping the 5→4 item gave him better coin efficiency with Gaston. That's one player's view, so treat it as unconfirmed.
Tips (our suggestions)
These are our own suggestions, based on the guides above.
- Practice the hold-and-tap on chain 3 without items first. Holding too briefly breaks the loop, and that's the part that takes practice
- Don't panic when a chain gets stuck. Randomtsum's advice: let go, pop the bubble and pick the rhythm back up
- Pick one chain shape. Randomtsum suggests trying a staircase (bottom to top) or a spiral (outside to center) and sticking with whichever you swipe faster
- Below SL6, keep expectations modest. Mixed Tsums keep falling, so the loop breaks more often
Is he in the box right now?
Fandom lists Gaston as a Resident Premium Box Tsum, first released on International in July 2017 (Beauty and the Beast event). We didn't find a second International source that confirms he's in the box right now, so check the Premium Box in-game before you spend coins.
